And although it’s rewarding, this work comes with unique challenges. Constantly holding space for others’ emotions can be draining, and, it’s often hard to prioritize our own needs. Whether you’re facing the demands of a high-stress agency, or the pressures of private practice, ensuring your own wellbeing can be difficult.
That’s why it’s essential for therapists to have their own therapy. Having your own space to process feelings, address personal issues, or cope with burnout, is so important. Taking time for self-care allows you to show up fully for your clients, your loved ones, & yourself.
Caring for yourself benefits not only you, but also your clients, family, and relationships. With your own therapy, you’ll have a place to process your own “stuff”, so that it doesn’t get in the way of your work or personal life. You can gain tools to manage the unique challenges of your job, protect your wellbeing, and find a healthier balance.
I have experience working for agencies as well as working for myself, so I’m familiar with the ups and downs of both.
