Therapy for Trauma & PTSD

Trauma from the past can spill over into our present - sometimes without us realizing it.

You might notice yourself feeling fearful, hypervigilant, or easily upset. Maybe you’re still bothered by things from your past, or have triggers that seem to come out of nowhere. It can feel scary not to feel in control of these things.

Trauma can include (but is not limited to):

Physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, sexual assault, betrayal, narcissistic abuse, medical trauma, grief/loss, threats to life or safety, etc. 


Whether you’re recovering from chronic ongoing trauma or specific events, counseling is a healthy step. Together we'll work through your past to help you live in the present. We’ll work at your pace, starting with coping skills to create a sense of internal safety. 

Trauma therapy can help with:

  • PTSD symptoms (i.e. flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, dissociation)
  • Recovering from unhealthy romantic relationships
  • Childhood/family trauma
  • Attachment issues 
  • Negative core beliefs rooted in trauma or shame

What we’ll work on:

  • Tools to calm your mind & body
  • Healthy compartmentalization & grounding
  • Processing traumatic memories
  • Creating healthier boundaries & relationships
  • Forming more positive core beliefs
  • Rebuilding self-esteem/self-worth

In addition to traditional talk therapy methods, I also offer EMDR for trauma processing.

EMDR doesn’t require reliving upsetting experiences or remembering details, which folks appreciate. It's simple, effective, and evidence-based. You can learn more here and here.

One step at a time, you can reduce your reactions to triggers, heal from guilt/shame, reduce anxiety, and offer yourself more compassion. Our goal is not to erase trauma or act like it never happened  - but to reduce its impact on your life so you can move forward.
